Articulation Prize: North West Regional Heat 2026

Articulation Prize is an opportunity for young people to deliver a 10-minute illustrated presentation to an audience about a work of art, artefact or architecture of their choice in a museum or gallery setting.

The Whitworth has been hosting the regional heat of the Articulation Prize for over 10 years, paying testament to the longevity of our strong partnership with the National Gallery. We have an incredible track record with three former regional finalists going on to win the Articulation Grand Final.  Each year the presentations always amaze the audience as the student presenters bring their personal take on their selected art to life.

This year brought another brilliant set of presentations from passionate sixth formers from across the region,, ranging from the plight of endangered giant tortoises through Stephen Fishwick’s Kemp’s Ridley, to fresh perspectives about the value of bringing together cultures through the Alhambra Palace, Muhammad I Ibn al-Ahmar, Yusuf I and Muhammad V. Once again, the standard was high and the breadth of presentations was wide from Alexander McQueen’s, Oyster Dress, Norman Rockwell’s New Kids in the Neighbourhood, Pacita Abad’s The Filipina: A Racial Identity Crisis to Jan Toorop’s Morning (after the strike).

Adjudicators Lilian Muñoz Flannery, writer and creative, with a background in Anthropology, and Dominic Bilton, Producer (Public Programmes) at the Whitworth, provided encouraging feedback to all with the difficult decision to select one winner. The regional winner was Georgia’s powerful insight into Artemisia Gentileschi, Judith Slaying Holofernes, 1612-13.  We wish Georgia lots of luck for the Articulation Prize Grand Final at The National Gallery on Tuesday 24 March 2026.
