Hello my name is Jasmine, and I am a supported intern at Pinc College. On Mondays we have lessons at the Whitworth. It is a great place to learn and I love being surrounded by the park and watch the squirrels go by. It is cool to be in such a historically significant building. I have a lot of admiration for Joseph Whitworth’ s work and the revolutions he made to the engineering industry.

It has been absolutely wonderful to get to know the staff at Whitworth and broaden my network. This will really help me in my future work as it has helped de-sensitise me when meeting new people. It is great to get a private view of the museum when it is shut. Both for how private and peaceful the museum is, and get to see the inner workings of the museum. I hope to learn more about the inner workings of the museum and see what exciting exhibitions they put on in the future.
Thanks,
Jasmine
I am a student at PINC college. On Mondays, the Whitworth allows us to use a room in their gallery. We have been allowed to use two different rooms, one of which is the garden studio with a sliding window door and the other which is the living room. The living room is open to everyone; they can eat lunch in there, it has sofas and tables plus a chalkboard with a timetable to fill in. It is a very open room and has windows lining it. The other room we use is the Garden studio; it has a sliding window door which looks over the surrounding park.

The park is great to wander around and watch the rats, squirrels and magpies play and interact with each other. The Whitworth isn’t too far from a few supermarkets, cafes and shops which is super useful when we need to buy our lunches. It’s also nice to have the option to sit in the park and eat lunch too, instead of being inside.
The Whitworth staff have been really accommodating for us and have offered us some unique opportunities, like handling artifacts, seeing pieces in storage, and taking us on tours to look at new exhibitions. Due to the Whitworth being closed on Mondays the tours are quiet and we are free to take our time to understand and take in each part of the exhibitions.
Overall, the experience at The Whitworth has been lovely and I recommend a visit.

The Whitworth Garden studio is tucked behind the main art gallery. It is surrounded by nature. You are in the middle of a lush garden where you will spot squirrels and butterflies creating a peaceful grounding atmosphere that calms your mind perfect for PINC students. The gardens are full of flowers in the spring and the beautiful oak trees are part of what makes this place so special. Inside the studio is flooded with natural light as there are tall glass panels surrounding the area filling the space with creative energy. If you are in a bad mood the sun will cheer you up instantly. When walking into the space you will notice how the garden studio has full wheelchair access, making it easy for anyone to move inside and outside safely and comfortably. This inclusion adds to the spaces warmth and safeness. The Whitworth’s main gallery has constant rotating exhibitions from artists of all walks of life providing never ending inspiration. In the past we have also been able to access private tours of some of the exhibitions by staff giving us first of all a chance to appreciate the artwork with the distracting nature of the public but also gives us a chance at looking behind the scenes and seeing what goes on in a gallery when it is closed.
Another great aspect about the location is the play park by the gallery. Which is a perfect way to calm down and exert energy when overstimulated or overwhelmed. A break like this is perfect. Finally just minutes away from the studio you can get access to all kinds of food. From supermarkets to Greggs to even a cafe, it’s the perfect way to finish the day. All in all the Whitworth Garden Studio is not just a brilliant environment, it is a state of mind. It promotes creativity and peacefulness. And it is a place that stays with you.
