When the first lockdown struck, our team, much like many others in organisations similar to ours, had to devise innovative ways to maintain engagement and momentum with the numerous fantastic partners, groups, and schools we are fortunate to collaborate with. The ‘Gathering of Strangers’ blog emerged as a means to communicate ongoing projects to broader audiences, provide platforms for meaningful dialogue, and empower the community through a diverse range of media. However, this approach is far from new for the Civic Engagement and Education team at The Whitworth.
Back in 2010, prior to embarking on our £15 million capital development project, which transformed our gallery spaces (for more details, visit https://www.heritagefund.org.uk/news/whitworth-reopens-following-ps15million-transformation-gallery), we initiated a blog. This decision was made with the knowledge that we would be behind closed doors for a couple of years during the renovation. Some of the work we started back then still has a lasting impact today, as do some of the partnerships we forged. We invite you to take a stroll down memory lane with us and explore what we were up to!
