In April and May the Still Parents participants worked with embroidery artist Tabitha Moses. They designed mandalas, a Sanskrit word that means “circle”. Mandalas generally have one identifiable centre point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes and forms. The process of creating a mandala is very calming, a repetitive activity that helps calm and focus the mind.
The group then turned their mandala designs into individual embroideries.
These individual squares will then be sewn together by Tabitha and displayed in the Still Parents exhibition which will open at the Whitworth in September 2021.
Still Parents is a series of art workshops run in partnership with Manchester Sands (Stillbirth & NeoNatal Death Society) for anyone who has lost a baby in pregnancy or just after birth. Please email lucy.turner@manchester.ac.uk for more information.
Still Parents is supported by Friends of the Whitworth.
